“Latvijas attīstībai” MPs, municipal councilors, and MEPs discussed municipal economic and energy independence, and civil security on the municipal level.
“Now we are understanding time a differently, compared to perception a one and half month ago. Decisions that used to take a longer time to take now must be taken immediately. How we deal with a surge in prices of gas and oil, is dependent on quickly and successfully we will be able to agree on the solution. Another important question is about social assistance as a response to increasing prices. The assistance should be allocated to those who are in the most need,” Juris Pūce, Head of “Attīstībai/Par!” Parliamentary Group addressed Convention delegates.
“We all must acknowledge that Russia will never again be an energy resources superpower. Russia and Belarus in the foreseeable future will be isolated from the Western world. Hence all the world right now understands that Europe begins right here – in Latgale. We must use this opportunity. Border defense, infrastructure development, new airport, that from a dream became a real project, all these things will bring new job opportunities and prosperity to this region. We in “Latvijas attīstībai” have consistently supported the development of Latgale. If we will be able to continue this, I am convinced that Latgale might become an example for the rest of Latvia,” highlighted “Attīstībai/Par!” MP Mārtiņš Bondars.
The chair of the Convention, head of the “Latvijas attīstībai” group in Riga City Council Viesturs Zeps, thanked party members for their work and introduced the next tasks for the party Convention: “We have done an immense work during Convention. Discussed important matters and shared our experiences. We also identified a list of topics that are important for our program for upcoming parliamentary elections – energetics, housing availability, and different aspects of security.”
Before the opening of the Convention, party members that previous year participated in the municipal election in the same electoral list in Daugavpils, convened for the special meeting, where they decided to create the “Latvijas attīstībai” Daugavpils regional branch. Igors Aleksejevs, Daugavpils city councilor was elected as the head of the new regional branch, Santa Pupiņa, and Oskars Zuģickis were elected as members of the board of the newly formed regional branch.
“Daugavpils regional branch was formed nearly a year after municipal elections. During this period, we have made sure that our core has strengthened and that we have convened people that want a better future for their city. Daugavpils regional branch of “Latvijas attīstībai” means that Daugavpils inhabitants will have a chance to communicate with parliament and government more successfully, whilst being sure that their voices are heard,” during establishment meeting Igors Aleksejevs, head of “Latvijas attīstībai” regional branch, addressed meeting attendees.
The decision to establish a new party governance institution – Convention – was taken during the “Latvijas attīstībai” winter congress, in December 2021. The necessity to form such an institution became apparent after municipal elections when “Latvijas attīstībai” secured 99 councilor seats in different municipalities. The institution will be working as an independent branch of party governance and will allow delegates to discuss important matters of the interest and will guarantee high participation of party members in the governance processes of the party.
During the first Convention Viesturs Zeps, head of the “Latvijas attīstībai” group in Riga City Council, was elected a chair of the party Convention. Viesturs Liepkalns, MP from “Attīstībai/Par!” and Baiba Bļodniece, parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Defense were elected as deputy chairs.
