In the last local elections, the voters of the political party ‘Latvijas attīstībai’ confirmed their confidence in the party by electing a total of 84 deputies in 24 local governments. It was the first time ”Latvijas attīstībai’ prepared such a wide variety of electoral offers for local elections, and as a result, obtained its historically largest representation in the municipalities.
In several municipalities ‘Latvijas attīstībai’ managed to win the plurality of votes – these were – Līvāni, Valka, Aizkraukle, Ropaži, Gulbene, and Jēkabpils districts, with some districts providing a majority representation for ‘Latvijas attīstībai’. Moreover, in other municipalities party had gained a foothold that will allow ‘Latvijas attīstībai’ in the coming days to sit at the table with other partners to jointly agree on the management of cities or districts and the implementation of the party program.
“This is a historic moment for ‘Latvijas attīstībai’ because we managed to transform the party that was represented in the Parliament and Riga City Council, to the party that is represented nationwide. This is a big responsibility. Sure we are satisfied with the results of the election, at the same time we take the work that is ahead of us very seriously,” comments on the party electoral performance MEP (‘Renew Europe’) and party co-chair Ivars Ijabs.
Party co-chair and Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Artūrs Toms Plešs after the elections validates that, “Our good results prove that administrative-territorial reform is positively evaluated and voters in many municipalities gave us mandate to successfully implement the reform.”
Third ‘Latvijas attīstībai’ co-chair Elīna Stapulone that was just elected to the new Cēsu district council emphasizes the importance of succession in the last six months, “We worked hard, every list in their respective districts and the whole party management, the projects we embarked and partnerships we established should continue. We have already discussed the idea of establishing the council of ‘Latvijas attīstībai’, where elected members of municipal councils will work together with the party’s regional sections on coordinating efforts nationally.”
On the national scale from ‘Latvijas attīstībai’ electoral lists were elected 84 councilors in 24 out of 26 municipalities where the party ran. It includes Daugavpils and Ventspils cities and districts of Aizkraukle, Alūksne, Bauska, Cēsis, Gulbene, Jēkabpilis, Jelgava, Kuldīga, Ķekava, Līvāni, Madona, Mārupe, Ogre, Olaine, Preiļi, Ropaži, Saldus, Saulkrasti, Sigulda, Smiltene, Talsi and Valka. ‘Latvijas attīstībai’ also was running in the Jūrmala city and the Balvi district. In Rēzekne district electoral campaign will be continued as the election there will take place in September.
