MEP Ivars Ijabs: Demand for Our Ideas in the Next Years Will Only Increase

“Dear members, supporters and voters of Latvijas attīstībai! 4.97 – this number will remain in our memory for a long time. Only a few hundredths of a percent separated us until being represented in the 14th Saeima. I don’t think it was deserved. Our team was active and professional, the leader of our electoral list Artis Pabriks – bright and convincing. However, the voter has announced his verdict, and we can only accept it. Our party has a lot of internal energy and confidence in our cause, so that we can continue our path in Latvian politics. The country still needs a modern, pro-European and liberal force capable of implementing necessary reforms. Given that the emerging coalition is likely to be right-wing conservative, the demand for our ideas and work will only increase over the next four years. But we must also use this time to change ourselves. It is clear that being outside the Saeima and the government will make many things clearer – including the attitude of our members. But in general, I am sure that this one lost battle can become a benefit for us in the long term – as long as we know how to draw conclusions from it together.” Ivars Ijabs, co-chairman of Latvijas attīstībai, member of the European Parliament (Renew Europe).

On behalf of Latvijas attīstībai we thank everyone who participated in the elections! This election proved very clearly that every vote counts. We sincerely thank those who supported “Attīstībai/Par!” election lists, appreciated what we did and stood up for our shared values. Thank you to all the candidates for the work they put in during the primaries – creating the program and the many meetings with the voters. Thank you to all the volunteers who contributed their work and time to our campaign.

Politics has always been cyclical. The Saeima elections have ended, but we continue to work in the European Parliament, Riga and other Latvian municipalities. Defending our values and ideas, we are preparing for the next elections.
